MIx It Up and Learn Guitar Fast

January 23rd, 2012

Do you find yourself just repeating the same old songs again and again? Well you’re not alone. For the first year of my guitar journey I only learnt around seven songs and a handful of riffs. Looking back I can see that it was just a bad habit and also a pretty bad mistake. Get yourself a mix of some really good guitar books and don’t forget you can buy guitar lessons online that will enable you to sample a mix of styles.

Take a couple of hours and go as far as you can with a song. Then go on to a completely new one, spend a couple of hours on that and then go back to the first one for fifteen minutes then the second for fifteen minutes. Next move on to a third song and spend two hours learning that before cycling through each of them for fifteen minutes each. Repeat this process again and again until you’ve got six songs. Next you’re going to want to spend five minutes on each one. Don’t linger just five minutes on each one then move on and repeat for another six songs. You now have twelve songs to cycle through, now don’t get stuck on them play around and play them in different orders. Try switching to another song in the middle of a song. Mix it up as much as you can add in riffs and try to think of ways you can improvise the songs by adding bits of others.

Try this for a couple of weeks and you will find you develop a lot of flexibility very quickly and also a solid base to build on. But now here’s the trick, go for clarity and accuracy don’t worry too much about your timing just get the chords nice and clean. And remember there is some great guitar tuition software that can help you really widen your range.
